India is celebrating its 72nd
Republic Day today. The country celebrates this day every year on January 26 to
memorialize the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect in
1950, and India became a republic country. Moreover, it is a day of pride for
all the citizens of India. Many of us know only this much about the Republic
Day of India. There are many more things to know about this day, and we are
here with all that information.
Republic Day is a national holiday in India. It honors the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect on 26 January 1950.
History
India became an independent
country on August 15, 1947, but India did not choose its date. The country
didn’t have any constitution at that time. It was just that India became
independent from Britishers following the Indian Independence movement. Indian
laws were still based on a modified version of the Government of India Act 1935
established by the British.
After two weeks of
independence, a Drafting Committee was appointed for making a permanent Indian
Constitution. The chairman of the committee was Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar. He is
the father of Indian Constitution. The Constitution of India is the longest in
the world. It consists of a total of 448 articles, and is in English and Hindi
languages. However, the Constitution was written & adopted on November 26,
1949; it came into effect on January 26, 1950. This was the day that Indians
chose for themselves.
Celebrations
The main Republic Day
celebration is held in the national capital, New Delhi, at the Rajpath before
the President of India. On this day, ceremonious parades take place at the
Rajpath, which are performed as a tribute to India; its unity in diversity and
rich cultural heritage.
The day, January 26, is
essential because the Indian National Congress did the important declaration of
“Poorna Swaraj” (declaration of Independence of India) on this day in 1929. It
means declration of complete self-rule. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Ji hoisted the
tricolor flag on the Ravi river banks. The date set by Indians for independence
was January 26, 1930. They were celebrating the day as Poorna Swaraj day for
the next 17 years, i.e., until the independence. Therefore, the Indian
Constitution was adopted on November 26, 1949, but it was considered better to
celebrate the document on a day associated with national pride, and that was
January 26.
Award distribution
On the eve of Republic Day, the
President of India distributes Padma Awards to the civilians of India every
year. These are the second highest civilian awards in India after Bharat Ratna.
These awards are given in three categories, viz. Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan
and Padma Shri, in decreasing order of importance.[12]
•Padma Vibhushan for
"exceptional and distinguished service". Padma Vibhushan is the
second-highest civilian award in India.
•Padma Bhushan for "distinguished
service of a high order". Padma Bhushan is the third-highest civilian
award in India.
•Padma Shri for
"distinguished service". Padma Shri is the fourth-highest civilian
award in India.
The country, India, celebrates
Indian Republic Day with lots of patriotism and joy. Moreover, the Indian army,
navy, police officers, etc, do beautiful and magnificent parades at Rajpath,
Delhi. It is a day when each community of the country comes together and
celebrates.
The ASANSH AUTOTECH salutes all
the Indians on this special day. Best wishes to all the countrymen on the
